The (other) TLS newsletter covers travel, history, literary studies and reviews, as well as original fiction, both short and long from US author Christopher Deliso.

These articles and photos draw on my 20+ years of travel writing, journalism and other publising from Europe. My background is in Byzantine history and philosophy (MPhil, Oxford, 1999), as well as extensive studies of American, Irish, English and other contemporary world literature. My unique and well-researched publications cater to an educated and engaged international audience—real people who are interested in the world and the arts.

2024-25 Newsletter and Personal Publishing Goals

The TLS started in February 2023, with varied coverage of history, travel, literature, reviews, poems and fiction in disparate genres.

During this time, I was also very busy writing and revising my first novel in a projected six-novel series about young Greek investigator, Detective Grigoris. From September 2024 and in the months ahead, regular articles will take you behind the scenes, in an unprecedented personal discussion of some of the literary ad musical influences that affected the novel. Visit the Detective Grigoris section here for a full list of these articles.

The year ahead will also see even more unique articles, stories and reviews that can be found nowhere else, as I delve into the more obscure areas of European and American history, travel and literature, with a focus on the overlooked, forgotten and unusual. My goal is to bring to a wider public stories and research nodes that either need help to get more public visibility, or would otherwise remain hidden in academic or foreign-language editions.

If you value this sort of writing, and wish to help my chances of publishing my stories and novels (whether traditionally or in an indie way), your support as a paying subscriber would be very gratefully received.

Other literary studies, stories and travel pieces will complement this output.

About the Specific TLS Sections

What the Internet calls website Tabs is what Substack calls ‘Sections’- the top-level folders on each stack’s homepage in which unique content lives.

Here is what the TLS offers (all subscribers by default receive emails from each Section; should you only want emails from certain ones, change your Substack Settings- I can’t do it for you).

Detective Grigoris

My future Detective Grigoris novel, begun in 2021 and completed in June 2024, takes place in and around Greece, around the year 2000, and combines action, adventure, philosophy and spirituality, comedic twists, and unforgettable characters and places. And there’s also several entangled mystery to be solved!

What Is subLit?

The home for both essays on literary greats and some of my own great short stories.

What Is EastMed?

The home Section for the historic and strategic aspects of the Eastern Mediterranean countries, with a focus on diplomacy, security and intelligence.

What Is ÆsubFabulist?

The home Section for my surreal, comic and unabashedly fabulist short fiction. Don’t take it too seriously and you’ll enjoy it more.

What is 1st Ephemera?

This paid-subscriber Section contains inspirational first-of-the-month travel, fiction and other hybrid narrations, all graced by a classic original travel photo taken by the author; each story is inspired by the relevant photo, but may in fact have nothing to do with it. There’s nothing to see until 1 July, but from then on, a new article will appear to help kick off your month right on each 1st of the month.
