This is magnificent! I didn’t know anything about Percy Fawcett. The history you’ve laid out here would make for a great short story. I could see it go in so many directions: adventure, supernatural, sci-fi.
Glad you enjoyed it, Daniel! The present story has been eroded by many revisions over the years, and has a companion piece of sorts. But the main intent was always to turn a typical historical fiction narration on its head by introducing an unexpected causal protagonist, in this case a river, to give it a sublimely metafictional oddness... I will continue writing my own PR :D
