The story behind… My Halloween at the Revival Society
My first ghost story, just in time for the holiday
Dear readers,
On Friday The 13th October, my first ghost story, ‘My Halloween at the Revival Society,’ was published in Mystic Owl Magazine’s Halloween issue. The link is below- and after that, a few comments about the story’s creation, and what the TLS will publish in November.

The story behind…
On the morning of 31 October 2021, I woke up with a unusual image in mind; a sort of painted, old-fashioned, levitating game board. I had begun the process of writing down dreams a month or so earlier, to help the writing process.
With just the receding image in mind, I had to sit down quickly at the computer. After all, it was Halloween, and why not try something new?
Six hours later, the story was finished. It fairly wrote itself, a rare and fortunate event.
It took a couple of years to find an interested publisher- one would be surprised at the relative paucity of specialized Halloween issues, but all was well in the end. I have stories that have remained unpublished after much more time and effort, so this was a nice result.
I hope that you enjoy my venture into the paranormal, and get a kick out of it.
Upcoming- November on the TLS
Istanbul is the next stop on the 1st Ephemera Section leading off the month. Upgrade to Paid for that, and the full TLS archive. Free subscribers can look forward to a story as usual on the 11th, and on the 22nd, a special double-review of new Irish music and a study of (somewhat older) Irish travel writing.
A Poetry Reminder
My new poem, ‘No Second Photius,’ was selected for the new (8 October) Last Stanza Poetry Journal, Issue 14. A total of 100 poems comprise the issue. The anthology is available here in paperback, hardcover, and also for free via Kindle Unlimited. Poets wishing to learn about Last Stanza, submissions and future themes, can see their website here.
A truly strange Halloween story that seems to be made for a film adaptation. Very haunting.
